About the event

In July 2024, the Victorian Treaty Authority held an event at Melbourne Museum with 100 invitees, where the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria officially declared its readiness to negotiate a Statewide Treaty with the Victorian Government.

The event marked an emotional and historic moment, with Assembly Co-chairs Rueben Berg and Ngarra Murray presenting the declaration to the Treaty Authority members, solidifying the Assembly’s role as the Aboriginal Representative Body for these negotiations.

This milestone also initiated a two-month Comment and Dispute Period, during which First Peoples in Victoria can provide feedback before formal negotiations begin.
